Parish News

As the new school year approaches we hear about the different organizations that are doing drives for school supplies. Most of these drives focus on the student and not the educators who often pay for many of their classroom supplies out of their own pockets. With that in mind, St. Elizabeth's established a drive for classroom school supplies which will benefit all the students.

For the past six years on the first Friday in August the Sebastian River Chamber of Commerce hosts Light Up Your Grill night. This year over 30 businesses, including St. Elizabeth’s opened their doors as a way of creating awareness of their businesses during this community event. Each of the businesses offer a variety of foods, prizes, gifts, and coupons to those who visit them. For the past three years the Chamber has used a food theme to encourage participant to become more involved as Chamber judges visit each business and judge their presentation.

The Fourth of July is a time when the country stops and celebrates it’s birthday. Whether we call it Independence Day or The Fourth it is a special day. All across the United States there were parades, fairs, BBQ’s, and of course fireworks displays.
In our community, Sebastian, there is the Freedom Festival. It starts with the Raising of the flag at Veteran’s Park, a 5K run and of course a great parade that covers approximately 1.5 miles along Indian River Blvd. and ends at Riverside Park.

On the first of July crafters Janet Mandeville, Cynthia Wallace, Patty Larose, Flo Clowes and several others went to present The Source with ten 3 x 6’ sleeping mats for their clients, along with a meal of macaroni and cheese with ham, salad and rolls. Sonya Morrison , Executive Director of The Source, will be distributing them to some of the homeless attendees. The St Elizabeth’s group intends to continue on this needy project, through the grace of God. Not only are we doing a service for the needy, we are also helping the environment by recycling and using plastic bags.

Mother's Day and more

Posted May 13th, 2013

[Video link to the sermon on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXQGXE7-SXU&feature=youtu.be ] Mothering Day in England honored mothers who separated from their family and Mother's day in the US initially honor mother's who lost son's in the war. It has evolved since Woodrow Wilson officially commemorated the day in 1914. Mother's day would not have come about except through what Anna Jarvis believed... The Gospel points us not to what we believe rather who we believe in. Disunity can occur when we share what we believe, unity in church comes from who we believe in.
