Memorial Day

The Sebastian American Legion and VFW posts held a Memorial Day Service in the Veteran's Park. Although the day was hot and humid over 400 were in attendance. Commander Andy Westerfield of American Legion Post 189 and a member at St. Elizabeth's lead the ceremories. The Memorial Day service involved numerous groups throughout the community. Prior to the beginning of the ceremonies, Mr. Thomas Ingui played a variety of patriotic music. Other groups in attendance were the Sebastian River High Band, two Cub Scout pack, a Boy Scout troop, Navy Sea Cadets. Members of the active military and veterans from all wars and conflicts were recognized. The key note speaker was Cmdr. Randy Laws, retired USN, and Naval instructor of the JROTC unit at Sebastian River High School. Fr. Dave Newhart from St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church and Rabbi John Goldring blessed the wreaths honor those who served.
