Summertime
Posted June 7th, 2010
Romans 12:4-6 4 Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ's body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. 6 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well.
There are numerous songs that have been written about summer and summer time activities. As we enter summer, we also see advertisements enticing us to visit certain location. I had to chuckle the other day when I saw an advertisement put out by Texas bureau of tourism. For most of us summer is a time set aside for relaxing and taking a much needed respite from work or school.
As we head into the summer months some of the activities at St. Elizabeth’s too slows down but not as much as you might think. We will continue to have special events and make ourselves visible in the community. For example, on July 3rd we will have a float in the parade and a spot in the park during Sebastian’s 4th of July celebration and parade. In late July or August there are plans to coordinate an outing to go to a minor league baseball game either in Viera or Port St. Lucie and of course there is our annual ice cream social in August.
Another opportunity we have during the summer months is our outreach and preparing to be an outreach to the community if a natural disaster occurs. We in Florida are all too familiar with Florida summertime weather patterns and the treats of hurricanes and tropical storms. We as a church can be prepared to help others should such an event occur.
Finally summertime is also a time of planning. We will be planning for the fall events such as the Pet blessings, our annual rummage sale, and a celebration welcoming back our northern missionaries to name a few.
While summer time for most is a time of refreshing and respite, let us not forget to share Christ’s love by reaching out to the community and sharing with others what He is doing in our lives and at St. Elizabeth’s… And remember if you do get bored there is always plenty to do here at St. Elizabeth’s…
