Jesus prayed for His disciple and then He prayed for those who would come to believe in Him through their words. Over 2000 years ago Jesus was praying for us... those who would come to believe in Him through their [the apostle's] words. In this prayer in John 17 Jesus also prayed for their sanctification and protection, to be set apart and to be protected from the evil one. They would need this if they were going to remain as one with Him and through Him to God the Father...
