15th Sunday after Pentecost 5 Sept 2010

Large crowds would follow Jesus but why? Was it because they desired something for themselves or awaited a miracle? Was it because they thought He was the Messiah and wanted to follow Him to reap the benefits? Being a disciple meant more than just being part of the crowd mentality of following Him. Jesus tells them and us that to be a disciple - a true follower - there were three things they must do... Be loyal above all else, be willing to carry their cross daily, and to relinquish all they owned. Sound difficult - maybe... but maybe when we look closer it isn't as difficult...
